Good Morning! Grab your cup of coffee or cup of steaming hot tea and let’s chat a bit.
I couldn’t hardly wait to share with you something I heard and felt the Lord speaking into my life about. To make it even more “powerful” Pastor Greg spoke about it just yesterday and it was a part of one of our INSTE lessons this week. Crazy how God does that!!!
On my way to work last Tuesday morning I was praying in my vehicle and all of a sudden, over the airwaves I heard this phrase – “We must simply stop focusing so much on ‘DOING‘ and concentrate more on ‘BEING‘”. I don’t know about you, but it was definitely a wake-up call for me. I could not shake that phrase all week.
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in doing all that we can do for the church and for Jesus Christ, and that is not necessarily wrong. But it is when it takes precedence over our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Eph 5:1 says, “Beimitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Phil. 3:7-11- ”But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ – the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.”
I Peter 1:13-16- “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
Jesus tells us that we are to be like him. Our Lord is more interested in us, His children, than in the work that we do. By reading His Word and spending time with Jesus, deepening our relationship with him, we can learn from Him how to live - (the Being aspect of it). And once we fully understand who we are to become in Christ, the ”Doing” will just come naturally.
Phil. 4:9 says, “Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”
I pray this speaks to your heart as it has mine. My greatest desire is to BE all that God wants me to be – fully surrendered and obedient to His will and calling on my life.
There is a Scripture I want to leave with you and it is found in Matthew 11:29-30 - and most specifically one small phrase:
Jesus is saying, “Take my yoke upon you and LEARN FROM ME…….
Spend time with Jesus and learn from his words and his actions. BE all that Jesus wants you to be!
Loving you today,
Debbie
